Rocks

Curl Curl and Dee Why Headland have produced some good-sized kingfish during the week with schools of large kings coming in close chasing bait fish. Live yakkas and fresh green-eyed squid have accounted for most of the bigger fish.

Those with long cast gear are also getting some decent snapper at the same locations – also on green eyed squid.

The North Narrabeen rock ledge has seen some good catches of bream on peeled prawns and salmon on pilchard baits. A good berley trail will encourage fish in close. Mona Vale and Warriewood headlands has also fished well for bream and salmon during the week – fish being caught on peeled green banana prawns and pilchards.

Beaches

On the beaches, flathead and bream were taken in good numbers at North Narrabeen during the week. Collaroy also did well with some big surf bream on the bite. Pilchards both whole and halved were the best baits.

There are still some salmon being taken off the beaches and the odd decent whiting starting to show up.

Beach worms are in short supply at present with our regular licenced bait catchers struggling to find worms on usually productive beaches. We therefore don’t have the stocks that we would normally have. Hopefully this situation will improve in the coming months. Those who can catch their own worms will certainly do well this season.

Narrabeen Lake

The lake is still closed to the ocean and dredging is still occurring on the ocean side of the Ocean St bridge. We have been told that this will continue for another three weeks. Whilst the lake being open usually provides for better fishing, there are still plenty of fish being captured.

The Jamieson Park area around the boat ramp produced some decent bream during the week all caught on our fresh Hawkesbury prawns.

The Ocean St bridge area has produced some good flathead and flounder on pilchard baits.

Unfortunately, some of those fishing on the Pittwater Road bridges have been leaving behind their rubbish and bait scraps. Our team have spent many hours cleaning up after them. Please – do the right thing and clean up after you fish, it just gives our hobby/sport a bad reputation when we don’t.

Offshore

Broken Bay wide has produced some large snapper as have Esmarelda and Long Reef wide. Most fish were taken at the 50m marks.

Fresh green-eyed squid was the optimal bait combined with consistent burleying. Try our new snapper flasher rigs to improve your chances of catching a feed.

There are also reports of trags and kings on the closer reefs as well as flathead on the drifts in the 40-50m marks.

Pittwater

Trevally are in good numbers throughout Pittwater with good reports from The Basin, Elvina Bay, Lovetts Bay, Stokes Point and Scotland Island (western side). You will need to get a good burley going to attract them but once you’ve got them interested use peeled prawns on a light outfit and enjoy the fun. Fish up to 50cm were caught during the past week

There are some solid kingfish around the wreck at Avalon and the back of Scotland Island. Fresh green-eyed squid is the best bait as they are very fussy on what they will take.
