Rocks

Bonito, Mac Tuna and Kingfish have been in good numbers at Freshwater, Curl Cur; and Narrabeen rock platforms. Stickbaits and whole yellow tail have been the best options lures/baits.

The rock platform at the southern end of Palm Beach has also been fishing well with some large kings being taken on fresh squid.

As always, be extremely careful when rock fishing and have all of the appropriate safety gear and an exit plan should you get washed in. No fish is worth your life !

Beaches

The whiting have finally turned up and are available on most of our local beaches. Try Dee Why, Curl Curl, Queenscliff, Collaroy and Narrabeen beaches.

Worms are by far the best bait but are very scarce at the moment. Those who can source their own worms will do well. If you can’t get worms, try peeled Hawkesbury prawns.

Along with the whiting are some lovely surf bream in reasonable numbers. These can also be targeted using chicken or mullet gut, pilchards and prawns.

Some good jewfish have also been showing up on the beaches with reports of decent fish taken at Fisherman’s Beach, Mona Vale, South Narrabeen and North Narrabeen. Fresh squid or large fresh strip baits are the best baits. There are also plenty of sharks around at the moment with many of our customers purchasing shark rigs and getting amongst them.

There are some salmon being taken off the beaches in the late afternoon and early evening with fish at South Narrabeen near the surf club, the rock pool at Mona Vale as well as North Narrabeen.

Narrabeen Lake

The lake is open to the ocean and has a good deep entrance resulting in plenty of fish coming in and out of the lake.

The usual summer species of bream, whiting and flathead are good numbers throughout the lake both down towards the entrance and up the back of the lake.

Try Jamieson Park, Pipeclay Point and Middle bridge area for bream and flathead with best bait being Hawkesbury prawns or 3” Bait Junkie soft plastics. These lures work really well. Some new colours have just been released which we reckon will be fantastic for the lake. They will often account for jewfish as well so a very versatile option for fishing the lake,

For whiting, try between the Ocean St Bridge and the entrance on a rising- full tide. Fish further up the lake once the tide turns and starts to run out.

If all fails and you don’t catch anything, go and see Phil, Steve and the team at the fish and chip shop at North Narrabeen.

Offshore

Broken Bay wide has produced some 3-5kg snapper as have Esmarelda and Long Reef wide. Most fish were taken at the 50m marks.

Fresh green-eyed squid was the optimal bait combined with a consistent berley trail. Try our new snapper flasher rigs to improve your chances of catching a feed.

The Wall and White Rock at Long Reef have been producing kingfish around 85cm.

There are also reports of flathead on the drifts in the 40-50m marks off Mona Vale Hospital.

Pittwater

Some schools of Bonito have been showing up in Morning Bay and up towards the Basin. They are focussed on very small bait fish so small metals of 5grams or less are required to get them interested. They are great fun on light gear and are great as either bait, sashimi, or cooked on the BBQ.

There are some good flathead around 60cm been taken on the drift around Stokes Point both on baits and plastics.

While not in big numbers there are a few solid kingfish around the wreck at Avalon and the back of Scotland Island. Fresh green-eyed squid is the best bait as they are very fussy on what they will take.
