Beach and Rock

The lake is open and has a good tidal flow after all the rain. Fishing the ocean near the entrance on the turn and first half of the outgoing tide will give you a good chance of catching salmon, tailor and jewfish on squid or fish baits. A lighter weighted prawn or beach worm will get you amongst some bream and whiting.

Curl Curl and Dee Why beaches are producing a good late run of whiting with some nice bream in the mix. Best baits are beach worms or Hawkesbury prawns. Palm Beach and Whale beach are also worth a try.

Tailor are also an option on the open beaches using gang hooks and pilchard baits. Those who use berley and getting the better catches.

Blackfish are in good numbers off the rocks with some good hauls being taken at North Narrabeen pool area. Trevally and bream have also been taken on platform at Warriewood and South Curl Curl which has also produced some kings and snapper.

Narrabeen Lake

The lake is open and following well. Many species like the water being stirred up after the rain as the murky water allows them to feed in the shallows without being a target for sea birds.

Flathead have been reported in good numbers up the back of the lake near the sports camp, Pipe Clay Point and Jamieson Park areas using both soft plastics, Hawkesbury prawns, and half WA Pilchards.

There are plenty of mullet and smaller baitfish in the lake so it is no surprise to hear that live mullet baits are accounting for some large jewfish around the Pittwater Road bridge and in the Wimbledon Ave area.

Offshore

Some big snapper were caught last weekend by anglers competing in the 3- Way fishing Competition. Best locations were Broken Bay Wide and Esmeraldas and fresh squid strips accounted for the better sized fish.

Newport Reef in close and Long Reef have both seen a few decent kings landed (around 85cm) on green-eyed squid and live yakkas.

Flathead are on the drift in the 50m marks off Dee Why and Mona Vale.

Pittwater

Some good bream to 43cm were taken at McCarr’s Creek and Browns Bay during the week. You need to fish very light (6lb or less) with little of no weight. Plenty of berley will help get them on the bite.

Flathead and flounder have taken drifting off Mackerel Beach. They are taking pilchards baits, vibes, and soft plastics.

Bonito have been hanging around the Palm Beach to Clareville section chasing bait schools. They aren’t always busting up so you may need to use your sounder to find them and/or slow troll from Stokes Point to Palm Beach on the outgoing tide and reverse on the incoming tide.

NBT regular Bob Allo had a good day out with his son Will and managed a mixed bag. Bob reports plenty of good-sized trevally in the Morning Bay area taken on Mack Tuna strip baits.

Nice southern calamari Squid are around West Head in close and Lovett Bay. They make great bait and are also excellent eating fish – the dilemma if you catch one.
