Rocks
There are still plenty of drummer and Luderick being taken off the rocks at Mona Vale, Curl Curl, and Long Reef . Use a bread-based berley and fresh peeled prawns for best results. Blackfish are taking both weed and cabbage.
As always, be extremely careful when rock fishing and have all of the appropriate safety gear and an exit plan should you get washed in. No fish is worth your life!
Beaches
Whiting are in reasonable numbers off the beaches this week with Narrabeen Lake entrance and along the beach to “the Pines” being prime territory.
At the Collaroy end of the beach both bream and whiting have been taken in good numbers. Beach worms are a great all-round bait for both bream and whiting.
The full moon saw several nice jewfish in the 10+ Kg class taken from Dee Why, North Palm Beach, and Narrabeen. All fish were taken on fresh green-eyed squid or Hawkesbury Squid.
Narrabeen Lake
The lake has started to fire with good reports of flathead, flounder, bream, whiting, tailor, and trevally. Best areas to try are the Jamieson Park area as well at Pittwater Road bridges.
One of our customers scored a very credible 43cm whiting on live nippers during the week and there was a report of a 90cm jewfish being captured near the caravan park.
There have been some flounder taken along the weed beds adjacent to Wakehurst Parkway and trevally down around the Ocean St bridge area. Best baits are peeled prawns and beach worms.
Offshore
Long Reef in close at the Wall and White Rock has good number of kingfish at the moment. Newport Reef and Maitland Reef have also seen kings in the 85cm size range coming to the boat. All reports of kingfish captures have been on fresh squid or large strip baits of tuna or mullet.
Some pan-sized snapper are being caught at Boltons and West Reef with squid and mullet strips being the best baits. A good berley trail is important when targeting snapper.
The 40-50 metre drifts off Mona Vale and Palm Beach are holding plenty of good-sized flathead with reports of Morwong on the flathead grounds off Mona Vale Hospital.
Pittwater
Large schools of salmon are hanging around West Head and Barrenjoey in close. These can be targeted using small 5-10 gram metal lures. Under the salmon are some decent kingfish so it’s worth letting a bait or soft plastic sink below the salmon to try for a kingfish.
Blue swimmer crabs have been in good numbers around Palm Beach and Sandy Beach and also across at the Basin.
Bayview baths has some good-sized bream and trevally and peeled Hawkesbury prawns fish unweighted or lightly weighted will get you amongst these fish.
