Fishing Report – 24 November 2023
Beach and Rocks –
The whiting are starting to show up in reasonable numbers along the beaches. Fish light with beach worms at the top of the tide for best results. There are also some surf bream and dart about – try Palm Beach or the Long Reef to Dee Why stretch.
Improve your chances of catching some jewfish and whiting with our own quality whiting and jewfish rigs. These are proven rigs as used by our staff.
Small mulloway are still being caught along the Narrabeen strip and some large salmon also reported. Squid, beach worms and pilchards as best baits.
Narrabeen Lake
The sand dredging in the lake is due to be completed by the commencement of the Christmas school holidays. The water quality is not great now however there are still some good fish being caught in the lake.
Pilchards and Hawkesbury prawns are our recommended baits for the lake.
Offshore
The FADs are holding good sized dolphin fish and some XL Mac Tunas. There is still quality-sized snapper being caught on the inner reefs. Try Boltons reef for snapper and trevally. Floating pillies and squid worked best.
The Flathead grounds off Mona Vale at the 40m mark are still fishing well. Best baits are half pilchards and mullet strips. Soft plastics are also working well.
Pittwater and Sydney Harbour
There are still plenty of large bream in Pittwater. Try the McCarr’s Creek area around the moorings with our fresh Hawkesbury River prawns. Flathead are in good numbers on the drift between Long Nose Point and Towlers Bay on the last part of the run out tide.
Some large Kingfish are schooling early morning in the western bays of Pittwater. Use your light outfit for a better chance of hooking up but hang on once hooked.
A surprise catch for kayak fisherman James during the week snaring a 69cm snapper in Middle Harbour (see picture above). The harbour has kings in good numbers up in Middle Harbour. Try around the entrance to Sugarloaf Bay and Sailors Bar. Some good fish have also been taken land based above the Spit Bridge. Berley with pilchard cubes and fish with fresh squid strips or floating unpeeled prawns.
