Rocks

The rocks are fishing well at the moment with blackfish and drummer being caught on most ledges. There are plenty of bonito around so a good time to get the spinning gear out and grab a few of these.

There have been a few snapper caught off South Curl Curl using fresh squid and garfish for bait.

As always, be extremely careful when rock fishing and have all of the appropriate safety gear and an exit plan should you get washed in. No fish is worth your life !

Beaches

A late run of whiting and some good silver bream were reported during the week. Fish the edges of the deeper gutter at Curl Curl, Dee Why and Warriewood beaches using beach worms for best results.

At dusk and dawn, and into the evening, tailor and salmon are around on the bigger open beaches.

There are a few decent jewfish being caught too and green eyed squid is the best bait to use.

Narrabeen Lake

The road bridges on Pittwater Road are one of the busiest fishing spots in the lake. It is the narrowest point of the lake and all fish travelling from the ocean to the back of the lake are concentrated through this narrow channel section. The bridge pylons attract smaller bait fish that attract the larger predators. It is no surprise that there are some great catches from the around the bridges.

This week we have had reports of large flathead at night, along with jewfish and some quality bream. Live herring baits are best for the bigger fish but still plenty of fish being taken on Hawkesbury prawns and pilchards.

Jamieson Park and off Berry Reserve are good spots to target flathead using mullet strips and small yellowtail.

Offshore

The water temp is still around 22 degrees and the offshore scene has been pretty good for those who can get out. Close in around the headlands there are plenty of bonito, tailor and salmon. Inshore reefs such as Newport and Long Reeg are holding smaller snapper and kingfish. Plenty of berley is required to get the snapper on the bite and it will also attract the kingfish and other species to the boat.

North of Broken Bay, some large longtail tune in the 15-20kg range have been reported. Look for the birds and bust ups.

Hairtail are still being taken in good numbers around Hardys Bay.

Pittwater

There are still some good schools of tailor near the Palm Beach wharf as well as bust ups between Palm Beach and Mackerel Beach.

After the rain, some big bream have been showing up in McCarrs Creek and Browns Bay. Hawkesbury prawns and mullet gut have been the best baits to target the bream. A good berley is important as bream will congregate in search of food.

The wreck at Avalon has been holding good schools of salmon and the odd large kingfish. Kingfish are also around Stokes Point and off Mackerel Beach. Fresh green-eyed squid is a must if you want to target these.

Church Point wharf has been a good spot for kingfish and trevally. This is a great land-based option particularly at sunrise and has been fishing very well over the past month.

Some decent flathead have been caught on the flats at Bayview and up into Browns Bay.
