Beaches

The recent big seas have created some nice deep gutters and holes on the open beaches. Some nice whiting and surf bream have been caught between South Narrabeen and Collaroy all taken on beach worms. Whiting have also been showing up at North Narrabeen and Dee Why beaches.

Tailor and salmon are in good numbers mainly in the evening at Curl Curl, Queenscliff, Narrabeen and Collaroy. Use pilchards and gang hooks for best results.

Some large salmon were caught by NBT regular Sam Taylor fishing at the northern end of Newport beach. Sam caught a mixed bag of bream and salmon but with the salmon taking his beach worm baits and the bream taking his pilchard baits,

There were some good Jewfish up to 5kg caught during the week at North Narrabeen and Curl Curl. Fresh green eye squid are the gun bait for targeting jews.

Rocks

Not many reports this week due to the conditions however one of our customers has been catching Salmon are in good numbers off Curl Curl.

Narrabeen Lake

With our junior fishing comp running at the moment, we are seeing plenty of flathead being caught with some good fish in the 45-70cm range being captured. Try around Jamieson Park and Pipe Clay Point with half pilchards, soft plastics and vibes.

There are plenty of small bream on the bite throughout the lake and the odd luderick being caught with the bream. The Pittwater Rd bridge area and Woolies carpark area have both seen some decent fish being caught on both baits and soft plastics.

There are plenty of mullet in the lake at the moment and these have been caught in good number up the back of the lake near the Sports academy. Fresh mullet are a good eating fish and also make great bait.

There are still small jewfish being caught in the early evening near the Pittwater Road bridge on both soft plastics and squid baits.

Offshore

The large seas have stirred things up on the close-in reefs with some great fish taken during the week. Some good catches of snapper (2-3kg) and squire were taken at Maitland, Boltons and Esmerelda’s reefs. Fresh squid is accounting for most of the better fish.  Flathead have been taken in reasonable numbers drifting at the 40m mark off Mona Vale Hospital and on the drifts adjacent to the Barrenjoey lighthouse. Fresh mullet strips and half pilchards are the best baits to try.

Some large tailor have been taken at Dee Why Wreck and Boltons.

Some large Kingfish 9 (up to 140cm) are showing up in good numbers at Broken Bay wide, and smaller legal sized fish have shown up around Pittwater with plenty of fish around Lion Island and Barrenjoey Headland. There were also some nice fish taken at Long Reef on the Dee Why side.

Pittwater

The kingfish are starting to show up around the entrance to Pittwater and will soon chase schools of baitfish into the bays in Pittwater.

Schools of Salmon are still schooling up around Barrenjoey Headland, off Mackerel Beach and West Head. These can be caught using small metal lures (3-10g) cranked back to the boat.

We have had reports of good flathead and trevally being caught in Pittwater around Stokes Point.
